With new responsibilities and roles at work, they brought higher stress. With the feeling that many things were up in the air and uncertain, I tried to figure out what was the best situation and when was the most appropriate time to get the project started. Before I asked someone for help, I like to look at if from different perspectives...in other words, you should ask a question that is quality, effective and worth someone's time. I couldn't have imagined in the past that I have become such a complicated woman. I needed to take a deep breath. I guessed, maybe every question would have a correct answer after a short vacation to FuZhou, the capital city of Fu Jian province, which has a very long history since neolithic times. I found a Canadian host on www.couchsurfing.com and started my trip on last Friday.
1.San Fang Qi Xiang:
Here there is a long history since neolithic period, and I feel like this is where I should be. A cloudy morning with a little bone-chilling rain, I shivered like a leaf.I couldn't stand the cold weather so I was looking for something to eat to keep warm after I got off the bus. Things were better after a hot brunch. I walked for a long time on the old street. The architecture of the buildings all had the same style. We can buy some local foods. My suggestions are: if you aren't the local Fujian people, it's ok to see the scenery and spend couples of hours enjoying the experience, or you would feel disappointed.
2. Gu Shan:
Another good spot in FuZhou is GuShan, it has more then 2000 stairs, beautiful temples and line cars. I alway regard climbing mountains as a task of challenging myself, so I chose the "bold people's path" all the time. The fact was, it's easy to climb on the top but it's harder to go down because of too many stairs. My ankles, knees and legs hurt badly so I had to delay the running plan again.
3.Special couchsurfing experience with Christina&Xavier
I arrived in FuZhou around 11:00PM. I was so sorry about that but Christina waited for me patiently and prepared a heater for me. I know both of them are English teachers, I asked them whether I could join their class and the next morning, I got up earlier and went to York English, a private educational school, with them.
We had dinner together on the first night and Xavier shared his Chinese learning experiences with me which was pretty funny. He thinks that Chinese characters are super difficult so he splits the words or phrase into single word. For example, 电脑=electric brain,电影=electric shadow. The most interesting words "small heart", Xavier asked me how to translate it into Chinese. I thought for a long time and many different contexts but I couldn't get it. Xavier told me that 小=small, heart=心,so "small heart=小心=be careful". All of us laughed. After dinner,we walked home. Christina&Xavier gave me a wonderful Ukulele&guitar show <I will follow you into the dark>.Then their friends Dustin and Robert came, we had a drink and interesting talk.
Summary of the trip:
- It's very convenient for Chinese people, we can go to all of the tourism spots by bus.
- A little challenge for foreigners, there's no English version menu on the bus.
- Not so much pollution compared to BeiJing and ShangHai etc. But it's very cold in winter, around 4 centigrade celsius.
